The Archdiocese of Manila and the Diocese of Cubao




February 6, 1579
Pope Gregory XIII established the Diocese of Manila, a suffragan of Mexico.

August 14, 1595
Pope Clement VIII raised the Diocese of Manila to the rank of an Archdiocese. At the same time, 3 new dioceses were established as Suffragan Sees of Manila, namely: Nueva Caceres comprising Southern Luzon and the whole Bicol Peninsula; Nueva Segovia comprising all of Northern Luzon from Batanes down to Pangasinan and Tarlac, up to the boundaries of Nueva Vizcaya; and Cebu comprising the Visayan Islands and Mindanao. The Archdiocese of Manila was composed of the provinces of Bulacan, Pampanga, Bataan, Rizal, Cavite, Batangas, Quezon, Mindoro, Zambales and Nueva Ecija.

April 10, 1910
The Diocese of Lipa (Batangas) was established.

May 19, 1928
The Diocese of Lingayen was established.

December 11, 1948
The Diocese of San Fernando (Pampanga) was established.

November 25, 1961
Cavite and Tagaytay became Diocese of Imus; Bulacan became Diocese of Malolos. Archdiocese of Manila was comprised of Manila, Quezon City, Pasay, Caloocan, and the Province of Rizal

Quezon City Consisted of 11 Parishes:
Our Lady of Ransom (established 1856)
San Pedro Bautista (established Nov. 11, 1932)
Sacred Heart (established Oct. 3, 1941)
Our Lady of Lourdes (established Mar. 21, 1942)
Immaculate Conception in Cubao (established July 15, 1950)
Holy Family in Roxas (established Sept. 16, 1953)
Most Holy Redeemer in Brixton Hills (established Sept. 20, 1954)
St. Joseph the Worker (established Nov. 23, 1951)
Sta. Rita de Casia (established May 31, 1957)
Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Project 6 (established Aug. 3, 1961)
Christ the King in Project 7 (established Aug. 3, 1961)

1962-1974 7 parishes in Quezon City were established:
Our Lady of Perpetual help in Cubao (Sept. 12, 1962)
Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Project 8 (Aug. 7, 1965)
Our Lady of Hope in Pag-asa (Mar. 19, 1966)
Sto. Niño in Bago bantay (Apr. 22, 1967)
Immaculate Heart of Mary in U.P. Village (July 29, 1969)
Sto. Domingo (Feb. 23, 1972)
Our Lady of Fatima in Cordillera (May 21, 1974)

December 3, 1974
 Quezon City was divided into 4 vicariates: Sta. Rita, Holy Family, St. Joseph and Sto. Niño.

Sta. Rita - consisted of the parishes of Sta. Rita, Sto. Domingo, San Pedro Bautista, Christ the King and Our Lady of Lourdes. Holy Family - consisted of the parishes of Holy Family, Fatima, Holy Redeemer, Immaculate Conception and Sacred Heart. St. Joseph - consisted of the parishes of St. Joseph, Immaculate Heart of Mary, and Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Sto. Niño - consisted of the parishes of Sto. Niño, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Our Lady of Hope, and Our Lady of Ransom (Novaliches).
1975-1982 20 parishes were established:

 The Vicariate of the Good Shepherd was established.
March 24, 1983 The Vicariate of St. Joseph was divided and the new Vicariate of Our Lady of Perpetual Help was created.

St. Joseph- consisted of the parishes of St. Joseph, Sta. Maria della Strada, Holy Sacrifice, Immaculate Heart of Mary and Holy Family (Kamias). Our Lady of Perpetual Help - consisted of the parishes of Our Lady of Perpetual help, Christ the King, Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, Transfiguration of the Lord and the Nativity of the Lord.
1985-1986 8 parishes were established:
Sta. Lucia in Novaliches (Aug. 1, 1985)
Sto. Niño in bagong Silang (Feb. 22, 1986)
Our Father in Sauyo (June 19, 1986)
San Bartolome in Novaliches (June 19, 1986)
San Antonio de Padua in San Francisco Del Monte (Aug. 4, 1986)
Ina ng Buhay in Novaliches (Sept. 10, 1986)
Our Lady of the Holy Rosary in Tala (Dec. 15, 1986)
Our Lady of Consolation in Tandang Sora (Dec. 19, 1986)

August 10, 1987 The District of Quezon City was divided into 2: Quezon City-North and Quezon City-South.
Quezon City-North: Vicariates of Good Shepherd, Our Lady of Mercy, Ascension and St. Joseph Quezon City-South: Vicariates of Sta. Rita, Holy Family, Our Lady of Perpetual Help and Sto. Niño.
(Bet. 1987-1989) The Vicariate of Our Lady of Perpetual Help was divided and became Vicariates of Our Lady of Perpetual Help 1 and 2.
1987-1988 5 parishes were established:
San Lorenzo Ruiz in Tandang Sora (Aug. 15, 1987)
Immaculate Conception in Damar (Aug. 22, 1987)
San Isidro Labrador in Tandang Sora (Sept. 11, 1987)
Hearts of Jesus and Mary (Jan. 4, 1988)
Immaculate Conception in Project 8 (Aug. 1, 1988)

February 1, 1989 The Vicariate of Sta. Rita was revised and the new Vicariate of San Pedro Bautista was created.
Vicariate of Sta. Rita - consisted of the parishes of Sta. Rita, Christ the king, San Antonio de Padua, Resurrection of the Lord and hearts of Jesus and Mary. Vicariate of San Pedro - consisted of the parishes of San Pedro Bautista, Sto. Domingo. Sta. Teresita, Our Lady of Lourdes and Sta. Perpetua.
1990-2000 10 parishes were established:
Sto. Cristo de Bungad (Feb. 27, 1990)
Mary, the Immaculate Conception (Dec. 7, 1991)
Our Lady of the Annunciation in Mindanao Ave. (Mar. 18, 1992)
Lord of Divine Mercy in Sikatuna (Feb. 19, 1993)
Jesus, Lord of the Divine Mercy in Mapayapa (Sept. 26, 1993)
Most Holy Redeemer in Masambong (Apr. 8, 1994)
Jesus, Lord of the Divine Mercy in Novaliches (Sept. 26, 1994)
San Roque (Sept. 2, 1997)
Holy Cross (Feb. 10, 1998)
Our Lady of Pentecost (May 23, 1999)

December 9, 1997 The Vicariate of Our Lady of Perpetual Help 2 was renamed Vicariate of San Isidro Labrador. The Composition of the parishes of the Vicariates of Sto. Niño and San Isidro Labrador was revised.
Vicariate of Sto. Niño - consisted of the parishes of Sto. Niño, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Our Lady of Hope, Mary the Immaculate Conception, Our Mother of Perpetual help and Immaculate Conception. Vicariate of San Isidro Labrador - consisted of the parishes of San Isidro Labrador, Our Lady of Annunciation, Jesus, Lord of Divine Mercy in Mapayapa, San Lorenzo Ruiz, Our Lady of Consolation and San Nicolas de Tolentino.
October 22, 2001 The Chaplaincy of St. Jude was established.
March 15, 2002 The districts of Quezon City South and North were revised and renamed Districts of Cubao and Novaliches respectively. The Vicariate of St. Joseph was transferred to Cubao and the Vicariate of San Isidro to Novaliches. The parish of San Nicolas de Tolentino (part of San Isidro) was included in Cubao under the Vicariate of Sto. Niño and the parish of St. Joseph in Balintawak (Caloocan) was added to Cubao under the Vicariate of San Pedro.
April 10, 2003 The Holy Family Chaplaincy was established (Vicariate of Sto. Niño).
June 28, 2003 The New Diocese of Cubao was created.
August 28, 2003 The new Diocese of Cubao was canonically erected and the new Bishop of Cubao, Most Rev. Honesto F. Ongtioco, was installed.
